The NOx emissions refer to NOx (as NO) as we use the NOx (as NO) emission factors from Andreae&Merlet (2001, last updated 2009) for the calculation.

The GRIB identification codes and units for all species are listed in the GRIB Parameter Database. They cover the paramId range 210080-210118,210231-210241. You may want to start off by modifying our example MARS retrieval script, which can be executed on ecgate. We also recommend the web-based MARS catalogue for checking data availability and example batch requests. If the previous sentences do not make sense to you, please contact our user support.

For hourly data, the grib identification codes are slightly different :

- 210099 is the gridded FRP

- 210097 is the observed area

- 210101 is maximum FRP

- 210080 is the viewing angle

0.5 degree data from fx5h can be different from ffxr, as it is interpolated from 0.1 degree data.

Known issues of GFAS1.1 (fl6z) :

   - No Quality control : two faulty  MODIS granules were assimilated on 8th of december and 13th of February 2008

   - Northward shift of one grid cell (0.1 degree) for all fires

   -  In some cases, emissions can be set to 0 for small values because of grib encoding

New in GFASv1.2 (experiment id fx5h) :

Daily injection heights are available through the following products in grib table 210 :

  • 210.119 : mean height of maximal injection, in meters above the ground
  • 210.055 : minimal height of injection
  • 210.056 : maximal height of injection
  • 210.120 : height injection estimated by the Sofiev Method (see Sofiev et al., 2012)

The data (FRP, dry matter burnt and biomass burning emissions) is stored using time-stamps. Time stamps are the following:

  •    1200 is the daily 0.1 degree assimilated GFAS products,

  •    1209 is the daily 0.5 degree assimilated GFAS products
  •    1201 is daily gridded Aqua FRP
  •    1202, daily gridded Terra FRP
  •    1203, daily gridded SEVIRI FRP
  •    1204, daily gridded GoesE FRP
  •    1205, daily gridded GoesW FRP

The gridded FRP products are also available hourly, ie, 131 is the gridded Aqua FRP from 1 to 2 UTC.
