G-IDAS_2: Global Production

The Global Production sub-project is responsible for the three pre-operational global production streams and additional experimental streams:

The streams are described below.

Near-real-time production

The near-real-time production stream produces analyses and 4-day forecasts of global fields of O3, CO, NOx, SO2, HCHO, and aerosols. Other reactive gases are available from the coupled chemistry transport model. It currently lags by 1 day. It is run at T159L60, which is approximately 125 km by 125 km at 60 levels.  The coupled chemistry transport model has the same 60 vertical levels and a horizontal resolution of 1.875 degrees x 1.875 degrees. The following satellite data are actively assimilated: MODIS AOD, SBUV O3, OMI O3, MLS O3, SCIAMACHY O3, and IASI CO. For the moment, SCIAMACHY SO2,  OMI NO2 and V4 MOPITT CO data are being monitored passively.

Delayed-mode production

The delayed-mode production stream produces analyses and 4-day forecasts of global fields of CO2, CH4, and aerosols. It lags near-real-time by 5 months and is run at T511L60, which is approximately 39 km by 39 km at 60 levels. The following satellite data are actively assimilated: MODIS AOD,SCIAMACHY CH4, AIRS radiances, and IASI radiances.

Reanalysis production

The reanalysis production stream produces analyses and 1-day forecasts of global fields of O3, CO, NO2, SO2, HCHO, CO2, CH4, and aerosols. Other reactive gases are available from the coupled chemistry transport model. The reanalysis was started on 17 March 2010 with a 1-month spin-up and will cover the period 2003 - 2010. It runs at T255L60, which is approximately 78 km by 78 km at 60 levels. The coupled chemistry transport model has the same 60 vertical levels and a horizontal resolution of 1.125 degrees x 1.125 degrees. The output fields will be made public every 6 months after some initial quality control.

Please take data from the experiment ffjt for the period 2004062500-2005063012. fbov did not use all the available meteorological observations during that period.

Please take data from the experiment fjw4 for the period 2008040100-2009043012 because there was a problem with the assimilation of CO data in fbov.
