G-GHG: Global greenhouse gases
|
|
The G-GHG sub-project provides observations and support to G-IDAS for the analysis of 4-dimensional gridded fields of CO2 and CH4. It also provides analysed gridded fluxes of CO2 and CH4. Statistics on the analysis increments of emissions fields are delivered to D-EMIS and to D-FIRE to guide improvement in inventory estimates as part of an improved service.
The G-GHG sub-project makes use of satellite measurements from AIRS, GOSAT, IASI and SCIAMACHY and of surface measurements. It is planned to make full use of the developments in land surface modelling made in the Geoland2 project.
The service was pioneered by the GEMS project, which performed a reanalysis for the years 2003-2007 based on AIRS satellite observations.
The G-GHG subproject gathers the expertise of seven partners:
- LSCE (coordination, CO2 flux inversion)
- ECMWF (CO2 and CH4 modelling and data assimilation)
- JRC (CH4 flux inversion)
- LMD (satellite retrievals of CO2 and CH4 concentrations)
- SRON (satellite retrievals of CO2 and CH4 concentrations)
- University of Bremen (satellite retrievals of CO2 and CH4 concentrations)
- University of Leicester (unfunded partner for satellite retrievals of CO2 and CH4 concentrations)
